Remembrances of our dear friend Tulio Gomez 4 July, 1972 - 21 June, 2005

"Get off my boat!"

Tulio Gomez 4 July, 1972 - 21 June, 2005

Our sincerest gratitude to all Tulio's divers, friends and coworkers who sent us such wonderful photos. In addition to their display here and in the various chat threads in Tulio's honor, we wanted to let you know that they were used to create this mural as well as several framed collages which were presented to Tulio's family. Your images brought many smiles amongst our tears. Tulio's family, as well as the CoCo View and Dockside family, are profoundly grateful that you chose to share them..

The santa hat day was a hoot. I brought a bunch of cheap santa hats down that trip to get out Christmas Card picture – Andrew was with us – so we got a shot of the three of us with the hats on for our cards that year. I even have that picture in my custom Starbucks mug. Anyway – I had lots of hats so just about everybody on the boat got into it and was wearing them on the boat and under water.

On July 2, 1994 Cliff and I ( the two Texans), Pat and Ellen (the two Floridians) and Tulio and Osman ( the two Honduran) headed east for Port Royal to chart a dive site that Cliff and Osman had found.  We found it, had a wonderful dive, charted it and came up with the perfect name, Seis Amigos.

Who's that, Tulio? "That's my dive buddy." Anybody have any stories about this guy?

(Early June) was our second trip to CCV and our second week with Tulio & Gringo, and Marcus too.   Tulio was a silent hero doing what he was meant to do and he will always be remembered with love in our hearts for him.

"Some People come into our lives and quickly go...Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same." Tulio touched our hearts and thousands of others! Deepest sympathies and lots of love.

These are the images I will always remember.  A hero and a mentor.  A good and easy nature, and a genuine desire to share experience and concern of the sea.  For Tulio, every day was fresh and energized, and it transferred to those around him.  Tulio suffered my Spanish and treated me like family. The Yellow Boat is filled with his spirit. ¡Ay Caracoles!, gracias por haber sido amigo!

While I only had the pleasure of diving with Tulio for one week back in April of 2004, he made a lasting impression on me.  We had a brief reunion in early June of 2005 but I didn't have the opportunity to dive with him on this trip.  After almost 50 years of diving, Tulio stands out as one of the most memorable divemasters I've ever met.  I'll miss him.

I have known Tulio for ten years in my five trips to Roatan.  I'll never forget his words  (This is my favorite dive site)  which he said before EVERY dive.  His caring and concerns for the divers and their enjoyment was unequaled. Tulio:  You will still be with us on every dive.
